Our dear (?) friends at Macq Uni, the model plane enthusiasts, probably hit more trees than we did! We have now learned that they are there every weekend from early morning to late afternoon. This forced us to change two holes thus adding to most people’s score. Their efforts to bring one plane down from a tree delayed the start with 15 minutes. If there’s a 1.73 m gap 15 m in front of the tee and there’s a guy in that gap on a ladder balancing a 6 meter fishing rod, you don’t throw. Especially not if his $72.000 4WD is parked next to him...
Anyway, 15 players (from Sydney, Wollongong, Newcastle and Blue Mountains) struggled with the diabolic baskets, designed to teach you humility. It’s a truly beautiful area and the course is good, but most stories shared during lunch were about putts that made it... and fell out/through or simply bounced off the bottom of the baskets! Roger Barnes was the only one taking advantage of the USO (Ultra Star Only) division rule; hit on basket, chains or top counts as in, but in the beginning he shocked us all by nailing almost every single putt! He swapped to golf discs for second round and had some problems, but with that talent, he’ll be fine soon! (Not the only one with huge talent, though!) Troublesome with divisions; what if a Rookie beats an Open-player? Do they swap for next round? To avoid unfairness regarding prizes in various divisions, we had an equal-opportunity-raffle for discs instead of trophies. To increase the number of Followers of the Rule Book, a Mini Marker was given to all players and miraculously nobody lost it! A lot of fun and next chance is (regardless of what you’ve read or heard before). Results follow...
