AGM and 2018 Tour Awards Night – Venue and Schedule

On Thursday 22nd November, 2018, Australian Disc Golf will convene for the 2018 ADG Tour Awards night and the Annual General Meeting. The venue for these festivities will be The Old Canberra Inn, located at 195 Mouat St, Lyneham ACT. The presentation will commence at 6pm with AGM to follow immediately after tour presentation is completed.

The agenda for the AGM and the financial statement are attached. There is also a proxy voting form which can be used by those unable to attend the meeting. The form should be filled in and returned to the ADG at secretary@australiandiscgolf.com .

At the meeting we will be electing the ADG Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, Director of competitions, Development officer, Communications officer and State representatives for the ensuing year. As per the ADG Rules of Association, written nominations for the above positions must be received by the Secretary of Australian Disc Golf (inc) by 5.00pm Monday 12th November at the following email secretary@australiandiscgolf.com

The AGM is a great opportunity to hear what has happened in disc golf around Australia in the past year and what is coming up in the year ahead. Following the official parts of the meeting the floor will be open for general discussion.  You can bring items up at the meeting or send an email to secretary@australiandiscgolf.com and we can add items to the agenda. If you have any questions or require a copy of the ADG Rules of Association please send me an email.

Following the awards and AGM, Todd Nowack and the ACT club will host the 2018 ADGC Players Meeting before dinner. Menu’s can be found on The Old Canberra Inn’s website. Due to the large number of players in attendance for the awards night and player’s meeting, it is recommended that you order food in advance.

Bidding for Australian Disc Golf Championships 2019 is now OPEN

The Australian Disc Golf Championships

We’re only 6 months out from the 2018 edition of ADGC, hosted in Canberra this November, which means it’s time for 2019 bidding to commence. The ADGC is an event above and beyond other tournaments throughout the year, so please keep in mind the TD requirements found in the Tournament Directors Guide.

To place a bid for hosting rights for 2019 ADGC, please email competitions@australiandiscgolf.com

Bidding will close on 31st July, 2018 with announcement of successful bid to take place in August.

Your bid should include proposed course location, dates (late November/early December required) and name of non-playing Tournament Director. Please provide as much detail as you can in your bid proposal to assist the ADG board in deciding on the events location.

Off-season disc golf

2018 is well underway on the ADG calendar with A-tiers already completed on either coast. Jordan Wheeler took out the MPO division in scorching conditions at the Dude Pro. In the ACT, playing the gruelling 27 hole layout to be used for this year’s Australian Championships, Bryan Motley triumphed over Jarrath Sweeten. The pair couldn’t be separated after two full rounds and a final nine with a three hole play-off required to decide the winner.

It’s not just tournaments that keep us all out on the course. Whilst the Northern hemisphere players head inside for the off-season due to freezing temperatures and snow, it’s an opportunity for us to escape sweltering heat and enjoy time with friends and family over the festive period. Despite the “off-season”, there’s still plenty of innovative ways players across the country are keeping busy…

In Newcastle, NSW, the club has been running daylight savings doubles for many years. Every Thursday a dozen or more people brave the mosquitos and make the most of the extra sunny hour. With over 25 different players and more than 100 rounds of disc golf (so far), it’s been a bumper off-season at Jesmond.

Further south, the ACT club ran the Snowy Mountain Marathon. Five courses over the Australia Day long weekend with 25 competitors from NSW, ACT and Victoria descending upon Thredbo to enjoy the disc golf on offer. Closer to home, the club also ran the ACT Disc Golf Club 2017 Glow Series and the 2017 Battle Royale, a weekly head to head match play event.

South of the border, the Melbourne Disc Golf Club ran their inaugural MDGC Summer Cup. What started as a simple concept to encourage players to get out during the off-season turned into a fiercely competitive mountain of disc golf. The Summer Cup had 19 registered participants and nearly 200 rounds of golf registered for scoring.

In the west, where everything is BIGGER, West Coast Wednesday was born. Taking advantage of the plethora of courses at their disposal, a weekly league rotating around each venue commenced in November. To date, over 60 players have racked up 250 rounds of golf with participants from 5 countries taking part. The West Aussie’s popular one-disc night tournament, the Lord of the Disc, sold out it’s 50 player registration cap in 2 days; an indication of how much player numbers are growing in WA.

A huge thank you to everyone responsible for organising these off-season activities and all the players who create a need for more disc golf events. 2018 is set to be a bumper year with 20 players already registered for next months’ Two Heads Open in Tasmania, breaking new ground in Mount Gambier as it hosts the SA Open (and Women’s Global Event) in May and an expected three figure field at the Aussie Champs in November.
