Aussie Disc Golf Day

Aussie Disc Golf Day is Australia’s biggest disc golf participation event: a nationwide virtual tournament held simultaneously at clubs and courses across the country. Every year, on the same weekend in September, players of all skill levels tee off together in their own communities and their scores roll up into a single national leaderboard. It is competitive, community-focused, and completely free to enter for clubs running an event.

What happens on the day

Clubs and tournament directors around the country register to run a local event as part of the nationwide virtual tournament. Each event is independently organised and sanctioned, but all results feed into a combined national leaderboard managed through the PDGA.

Open to everyone Events are designed to welcome players of all skill levels, from first-timers through to experienced competitors. Divisions run across the full range so everyone has a fair field.
Local and national at once You play at your home course with your local community, but your result contributes to a single national leaderboard that connects the whole country on the same day.
A focus on new players Each year ADG encourages clubs to use the day to bring in people who have never played before. Come-and-try activity alongside the main event is actively supported.
TD-friendly format From 2025, Aussie Disc Golf Day has had a specific focus on supporting new tournament directors, with ADG’s TD mentoring program encouraging first-time TDs to take the reins at their local event.

History

Aussie Disc Golf Day was born out of necessity during a difficult period for the sport, and has grown into one of the most distinctive events on the Australian disc golf calendar.

2020
The first Aussie Disc Golf Day COVID travel restrictions meant Australians could not gather in large numbers or cross state borders. ADG created the virtual multi-site format so clubs could still host events close to home and the community could come together nationally, even while apart. The format proved an immediate success.
2021
Second running The event ran again as restrictions continued in parts of Australia. The multi-site format was embedded and the national leaderboard became a talking point across the community.
2022
Third running, Play It Forward launch Held over the weekend of 3-4 December, the third event expanded its reach across the country. ADG used the day to launch the Play It Forward program in partnership with RPM Discs: 700 discs were distributed to clubs nationwide to be passed on to new players curious about the game.
2023
The event finds its permanent home in September The event moved to its now-established September timeslot, giving clubs a consistent annual date to plan around.
2024
Fifth year, 455 players across 13 events The fifth running brought together 455 players across 13 events nationwide. The event had grown from a pandemic workaround into a genuine annual institution.
2025
Sixth year, celebrating tournament directors Held on 20-21 September, the 2025 event brought together 430 participants across 16 tournaments. The theme shifted to celebrating the TDs who make the sport run: ADG spotlighted its mentoring program and had shirts made for all tournament directors running events on the day.
