Australian Disc Golf is entirely run by volunteers. Every board member, state representative, and committee member gives their time because they love the sport. If you do too, there’s a place for you here, no matter your background or experience level.
All are welcome. We actively encourage nominations from people of diverse gender and cultural backgrounds. Whether you’ve been playing for decades or just got started, your perspective has value. No previous board or committee experience is needed.
Ways to get involved
Help steer ADG nationally, or be the go-to person for disc golf in your state.
Focus on an area you care about: events, the national team, or projects like grants. No board seat needed.
Run or volunteer at an event, host a come-and-try day, or get your local club affiliated.
Board positions
The board is elected by members at each AGM and meets monthly online. The Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer are the Association’s office holders; every board member has a vote on board decisions.
Full descriptions of each role are in the Board and State Representative Positions guide.
State representatives
Each state has 1–2 representatives, ideally from different clubs, who are the first point of contact for local clubs and players. State reps meet online to share what’s happening in their state and hear what the board is working on. They also look after their state’s affiliated clubs list and Certificate of Currency, and coordinate the TD Mentoring Program locally.
State representatives are confirmed at AGM time. Where a state has its own disc golf body, that body chooses one of the representatives. Read the state rep info sheet.
Committees
Committees aren’t elected at the AGM. They’re set up by the board through the year, so you can put your hand up at any time.
See the Committees guide for more detail.
How to nominate for the board
Any ordinary (full voting) ADG member aged 18 or over can nominate. You can nominate for one office-holder position (Chair, Deputy, Secretary or Treasurer) or as a General Board Member.
The Secretary emails all members calling for nominations at least 42 days before the AGM, including the closing date. It will also be posted here.
Your nomination needs a short statement of support from one other current ADG member. Think about who knows your commitment to the sport: a fellow club member, a regular event competitor, or anyone you’ve played with.
Complete the online nomination form before nominations close, at least 28 days before the AGM. You’ll be asked for the position you’re nominating for, a few details about yourself, your supporter’s statement, and the skills you can contribute.
The AGM notice, sent at least 14 days beforehand, lists everyone who has nominated. At the online AGM, positions with one nominee are declared elected and contested positions go to a member vote. All members are welcome to attend and hear the year in review.
New board members receive ADG’s key policies, including the Conflicts of Interest and Social Media policies, and monthly online meetings begin. The existing team is always happy to help you settle in.
Interested in being a state representative? Let us know when the call for nominations goes out, or contact the State Representative Liaison at any time. If your state has its own disc golf body, speak with them too.
Common questions
Can I nominate for more than one position?
You can nominate for one office-holder position (Chair, Deputy, Secretary or Treasurer) or to be a General Board Member. If you’re unsure which suits you, get in touch and we can talk it through.
How long is the term?
Board positions run until the next AGM. You’re welcome to nominate again the following year.
What happens if nobody nominates for a role?
The chair of the AGM can call for nominations from members at the meeting. If a position is still unfilled, the board can appoint an eligible member to it later in the year.
Can I join partway through the year?
Yes. The board can fill board vacancies as they arise, and committees take on members throughout the year. Let us know what you’re interested in and we’ll keep you in mind.
What if I can’t make every meeting?
That’s fine, just let the board know. Board members who miss 3 meetings in a row without giving notice stop being on the board, so staying in touch matters.
Will it cost me anything?
Reasonable out-of-pocket travel and accommodation expenses incurred on ADG business can be reimbursed.
What’s expected of board and committee members?
Act in the interests of ADG members, declare any conflicts of interest (such as a role in a club or state body), keep sensitive matters confidential, and only speak publicly on behalf of ADG when authorised.
Can I step down if my circumstances change?
Yes. Just give written notice to the Secretary.
Ready to get involved?
Nominations open each year in late October, and the form will be linked here when it’s live. Committees and other volunteer roles are open all year. Read the guides below, or get in touch if you have questions about a specific role.
