What is Discover Disc Golf?
Discover Disc Golf is a nationally coordinated Come & Try initiative run by Australian Disc Golf. Clubs across the country are hosting free or low-cost beginner events throughout July, August, and September 2026 — giving anyone curious about the sport an easy, welcoming first experience. No equipment needed, no skill required.
Free to attend
Come-and-try sessions are designed to be low barrier: just show up. Clubs provide loaner discs and friendly guidance.
At your local club
Events are happening at courses in every state. Find one near you and come along with family, friends, or on your own.
National campaign
Every Discover Disc Golf event is part of a coordinated national initiative, building towards Aussie Disc Golf Day in September.
What to expect on the day
Come-and-try sessions are relaxed, fun, and structured around getting you throwing as quickly as possible. Here’s roughly how a typical session runs:
01
Arrive and register
Sign in at the registration table. Pick up a loaner disc. You’ll be matched with a friendly experienced player who’ll be your guide for the session.
02
Quick intro and throwing basics
A short overview of disc golf: how it works, the different discs, basic technique. No long lectures. The goal is to get you throwing within the first few minutes.
03
Putting games and activities
Friendly putting challenges and mini-games that are fun whether it’s your first time picking up a disc or your fiftieth. Great for all ages.
04
Play a few holes
Put it all together by playing some actual holes on the course with your group. The focus is fun, not scoring. You’ll leave knowing exactly what disc golf feels like.
05
What’s next?
Find out how to keep playing: when the club meets next, local leagues, and how to celebrate Aussie Disc Golf Day in September. Some clubs even give away a disc to take home.
Is your club running an event?
Any ADG-affiliated club can register to host a Discover Disc Golf come-and-try event. ADG provides everything you need, from templates, run-sheets, advertising, and campaign branding, and up to $300 grant to cover your costs. The goal is that clubs need to do as little as possible to get started.
Up to $300
Club grant per participating club
Every club that registers and runs a Discover Disc Golf event receives a small grant from ADG. Use it for loaner discs, signage and printing, catering, or small prizes and giveaways. ADG handles the toolkit, you focus on the event.
What clubs receive
Ready-made brand assets
Discover Disc Golf logo, editable Canva social media templates, printable A3/A4 posters, a pull-up banner, and a trifold pamphlet — all ready to use immediately.
Event planning toolkit
One-page event guide and checklist, a suggested run-sheet, volunteer briefing notes, and post-event follow-up message templates.
EventBrite page created for you
ADG creates a branded EventBrite event page for your club on registration, so you can take bookings straight away with no extra setup.
ADG promotion support
Your event is listed on the ADG landing page and promoted to your local community.
Social media templates
Pre-written Facebook event post, reminder posts, and a post-event recap template — all you do is copy, customise with your details, and post.
How to register your club
Step 1
Complete the club registration form
Takes about 5 minutes. You’ll share your club name, contact person, preferred event date within the July–September window, and your course location. ADG will confirm registration and take it from there.
Step 2
Receive your toolkit and grant
ADG shares the full toolkit via email. Your EventBrite page goes live. You get added to the national landing page.
4–6 wks out
Recruit volunteers and gather loaner discs
Aim for one experienced player per 3–4 newcomers. Lightweight putters and midranges (150–165g, understable) work best. ADG may have bulk disc options available — ask when you register.
3 wks out
Post your event on socials
Use the provided Facebook event template. Put up posters at the course, local noticeboards, libraries, and cafes. ADG will help share in local community Facebook groups.
Event day ⭐
Run your come-and-try event
Follow the run-sheet, if you like. Welcome people, run the session, point them toward what’s next. Take a group photo and send it to ADG for resharing.
Within 48 hrs
Follow-up and recap
Post photos and a recap on your club page. ADG emails registered attendees using the follow-up template. Complete the short feedback form so ADG can track national results.
