10th Sparks Summers Sizzler – Results and Report

{moszoomthumb imgid=260 itemid=49}

The 10th Sizzler at Eddison Park was a great success thanks to the keen disc golfers who supported it. Also there was the first tourney Ace, fittingly by local Jim who started DG only 3 years ago.  New course records were set, the usual hot weather was absent & the predicted rain stayed in the fast moving dark clouds overhead. The cool gusty winds added to the challenge of missing trees on drives & approaches, & holing putts into headwinds.

Two rounds were played on Sunday, using a new course design, the "PD-Walkabout". The most liked fairway was the Ace hole, the 12th, & Jim used a Sidewinder to do it! Other short favourite holes were 1, 2, 6, 9 & 10.  The road hazard on holes 4, 13 & 16 caused afew players some problems, even Kurt landed in the middle of the road, others scored 6s &  7s. Not surprisedly holes 13 & 16 weren’t popular as well as 3 & 15.

The divisional first places were:

  • Simon Pryde (Advanced Men)
  • Keith Bird (Grand Masters)
  • Jim Montgomery (Masters)
  • Kurt Karlsson (Open) with new course record of 53

Nearest the polehole prizes were won by Paul, Albert, Nick & Bill.
The coolest & fairest award went to Mark, the miraculous great escape by Andrew won him a fireman’s hat.

Thanks to all players who came, Kurt for his ‘disc shop in a car’, those who assisted with the other jobs & especially to my co TD  Paul & the club president Nick for completing the totals & award giving.  I was unable due to geyser hiccups & collapsing from sizzleitis syndrome after the last hole.

All players enjoyed the weekend including the putting events on saturday & the "approach & putt public 9" course being played as a warmup. Luke & Kurt set a new course record of 24 for the public 9. The ‘old’ layout was suggested as the better course for a final comp round.

The multi station putting comp was won by myself with 6 from 12 putts, unbelievable that the better players didn’t win this!  Ring of fire from a distance of 10 meters was won by Dan.

Full results and spreadsheets below. Even winners and tour points are determined from Sunday only, however the two day totals are provided for those who are interested.
